MEET THE FRIENDS

The Friends of the Wardsboro Library, Inc. is an all-volunteer support organization for the public library in Wardsboro, Vermont. We are the only library Friends group in the state of Vermont that owns the town's library building. Therefore, our efforts and the generosity of many donors and sponsors are what keeps the library doors open for every resident of Wardsboro and the neighboring towns.

The Friends is a non-profit corporation dedicated to acting as advocate of the Library:

      Fund raising, especially to create an endowment fund and to preserve and maintain The Gloria Danforth Memorial Building, which houses the public library;

Serving the community by sponsoring educational, cultural, and recreational activities;

Working closely with the library staff and trustees to provide educational resources and to contribute to the cultural and intellectual life of the town and surrounding communities.

The Gloria Danforth Memorial Building is the home of the Wardsboro Public Library. Learn more about how the Friends came to own this historic farmhouse and how a small group of townspeople maintain the building without asking for one dollar of local tax revenue.

Special fundraising event

ART SALE! THANKS to a special Friend of the Wardsboro Library, an exhibition and sale of donated artworks will benefit the groups's Barn Renovation Fund. This month, Feb. 2010, and next, March 2010, the popular Gallery Walk on the first Friday of each month in Brattleboro will feature art work on display at TWICE BLESSED on Main Street. The art work will remain on sale through the end of April, 2010.

The mixed-media art works are by the late J.E. Judge and Rosemary O'Carroll and are a part of a major collection donated to the Friends at the end of 2009 by a South Wardsboro resident, Debbie Gervais. Gervais has been a sustaining supporter of the Friends. The profits from the sale of the art work are earmarked for Phase II of the Barn Restoration project and will help cover the cost of a new roof and insulation.
